Varicose Vein and Spider Vein treatment
Spider veins and varicose veins are very common vein disorders that we treat at Vein Memphis in Memphis. Spider veins and varicose veins can be unsightly, and usually appear dark in color. Varicose veins bulge from the surface of the skin and are rope-like in appearance. Varicose veins are often accompanied by other symptoms, including itchiness and discomfort.
At Vein Memphis, we offer patients a variety of effective and minimally invasive treatments that will improve the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins, reduce symptoms, and improve patients’ overall vascular health.
Endovenous Laser Treatment
Endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) is one of the most effective treatments available for varicose veins. During this procedure, our experienced vein doctor inserts a catheter into the vein through a tiny incision. Using ultrasound guidance, the doctor then inserts a laser fiber optic into the vein and delivers a pulse of energy. This effectively seals the vein and blood is naturally re-routed to surrounding healthy veins.
Recovery time is usually minimal for this procedure, which is performed on an out-patient basis in our vein clinic. Patients are encouraged to walk after the procedure and are required to wear a compression bandage to aid in the healing process.
Sometimes varicose veins are very large. In this case, ambulatory phlebectomy may be the best option. Ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure in which the vein is surgically removed through a small incision. This procedure is performed under a local anesthetic and involves a minimum of discomfort. Recovery time is usually short for this procedure, and patients may be able to resume normal activity shortly after the procedure. Like, EVLT, patients are required to wear a compression garment after the surgery to aid circulation and the healing process.
Sclerotherapy is used to treat both varicose veins and spider veins. This treatment is usually reserved for smaller veins, which is why it is commonly used to treat spider veins. This is a non-surgical procedure in which our experienced vein doctor injects a solution directly into the problematic vein using a fine needle. The physician may use ultrasound during this procedure to image the vein and guide the needle. The solution causes the vein to seal, and blood is re-routed into surrounding veins. To obtain optimal results, this procedure may require two to four treatments, depending on the patient. Ultimately, this treatment reduces or eliminates the appearance of small varicose veins and spider veins.
Spider Vein Treatment
While sclerotherapy may be an excellent option for the treatment of spider veins, laser treatments also offer patients excellent results. We offer laser treatment of spider veins in the comfort of our Memphis vein clinic. There is minimal discomfort involved and little to no recovery time necessary; most patients can resume their regular activities immediately. There is little to no risk of side effects in the use of laser treatment for spider veins, and the treatment provides excellent results.
